Shiv Sena slams preparations of Trump's visit to India, calls it 'slave mentality' as PM Modi is trying to hide garibi

On Monday, the Shiv Sena slammed the ongoing preparations for the US President Donald Trump's much awaited visit to India as it reflects the "slave mentality" of Indians.

An editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said Trump's India trip is like the visit of a "Badshah" (emperor).

Ahead of Trump's visit, Sena denounced the construction of a wall on a plot having slum structures in Ahemdabad and said Trump's visit would neither stop the declining rate of rupee's value in the forex market nor offer any betterment to those swell dwellers behind the wall.

It said, "Before Independence, British King or Queen used to visit one of their slave nations like India. The kind of preparations going on from taxpayers' money for the arrival of Trump is similar to it. This reflects the slave mentality of Indians."

The Sena also took a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Ahemdabad Municipal Corporation's  (AMC) move to build wall on a plot to "hide the slums" on the route where Trump's convoy is to pass.

The regional publication further said, " Former prime minister Indira Gandhi had once given the slogan 'Garibi Hatao,' which was ridiculed for a long time. It seems now Modi's plan is 'Garibi Chupao.'

The editorial column passed witty remarks and wondered Is there any financial allocation for such a wall being built in Ahemadabad? Is the US going to offer loan to India to build such walls across the country?

"We have heard Trump is going to be in Ahemadabad for only three hours but the wall construction in costing almost Rs 100 crore to the state exchequer," the Marathi publication said.

However, it has been calimed by Sena that this visit is a political stunt between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump. US Presidential elections are likely to happen later this year, Trump's idea to advertise himself as to receive fruitful results.

It observed, last year, 'Howdy Modi!' was organised in the US, a mega evenr where PM Modi and Trump gave joint address. A similar programme, "Kem Chho Trump" (Gujarati expression for how are you Trump), is underway in Ahemdabad prior to US elections, interestingly because a large number of Gujarati community resides in America," claimed the Shiv Sena.

The Sena said Trump is "not someone very wise or a statesman or someone who cares for the whole world", but he has to be treated with respect as he represents the mighty US. It noted, "Sometimes you have to treat someone with respect to get your things done."

On Friday, the AMC said the construction of the four-feet high wall was approved much before Trump's Gujarat visit was finalised.

Trump is scheduled to visit Modi's home state Gujarat on February 24. He will visit the famous Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and take part in a roadshow with Modi. After that, the two leaders will inaugurate a new cricket stadium in Motera and address a gathering there, with an expected audience of over a lakh people.

However, earlier it was speculated that the programme would be called 'Kem Chho Trump', on Sunday the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation tweeted a series of posters confirming that the event now would be acknowlegded as 'Namaste Trump', apparently to give it a pan-India appeal.
