A bizarre and shocking incident from Madhya Pradesh has come to light where a 12 year old boy consumes as many as 40 chapatis in a day. However, his parents did not control their child’s unusual eating habits which led to his overwhelmingly increased blood sugar level.

The young boy has been identified as Sandeep, a native of village Khod in Shivpuri district, who lost his eye sight to diabetes. Going by the media reports, one day Sandeep fainted and he was rushed to the private hospital where the doctors went into the state of dilemma after diagnosing him.

They found out that his blood sugar level had reached 1206mg, which is significantly higher than normal.

Sandeep’s father (Banwari Adiwasi) upon reaching the hospitals narrated the entire medical condition of his son and asserted that Sandeep had a severe headache.

Dr Deepak Gautam, who examined Sandeep’s condition, diagnosed that his body parts including the heart, almost stopped functioning. It all happened due his extremely high blood sugar level, which has reportedly surged as he used to eat 40 chapatis a day. 1206 mg blood sugar level had also developed pus in the head of Sandeep. A surgeon, Dr Anant Rakhore drained out 720 ml pus from his head.

Dr Rakhore said the boy had fainted because of the pus which also caused blindness. In order to control his blood sugar level, the boy is being given six units of insulin daily.

After Sandeep’s blood sugar level dropped to normal, an opthalmologist at the district hospital Dr Girish Chaturvedi examined his eyes. Dr Chaturvedi said the boy was suffering from diabetic retinopathy. He advised the boy’s parents to get his eyes operated as early as possible.

After his parents agreed, Dr Chaturvedi first operated upon the left eye of the boy. He operated upon the right eye after five days. The boy got his sight back.

A child specialist in the medical college Dr Kriti and Dr Shami Jain also played an important role in infusing a new life into the boy. He is still under treatment but out of danger.
