Punjab congress head Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday condemned the Ludhiana Court Blast, which killed one and injured five people. Sidhu said the series of events– including sacrilege incident– are carried out to disturb the peace in Punjab.

A former cricketer, who is known for his outspoken nature, took an indirect jibe at the government at helm, saying innocent people losing their lives to “vote bank politics” is cowardly. Sidhu said these incidents are well-planned and carried out by vested interests to disrupt the peace.

He also paid his condolences to people who died while praying for the better health of injured ones.

“The blast in Ludhiana Court leaves no shadow of doubt that a series of peace-disrupting activities have been planned by vested interests to create law & Order problem in Punjab. Condolences to those who lost their lives and sincere prayers for speedy recovery of the injured,” Navjot Singh tweeted.

He said it is high time to make an end to “divisive” politics and rather the focus be shifted to politics of hope and unity.

“I condemn this cowardly act … Innocent people losing lives to vote bank politics and polarisation !! The politics of Hope and Unity must replace the politics of Fear and Division. Divisive force will be defeated by the indomitable spirit of Punjabiyat given to us by Great Gurus,” he added.

A number of incidents took place in Punjab recently, the blast in Ludhiana court being the lastest. While the investigation is on, CM Charanjit Singh Channi said the attacker was killed.

Channi has also hinted that these events are happening because the assembly elections are not much far away.

"Everybody knows the timing and the handiwork of these forces as the Assembly polls are drawing near and they are hell-bent upon hatching such conspiracies to disturb the hard-earned peace and harmony in the state. It is the need of the hour to condemn such incidents in the harshest possible words by one and all." He said.

Sidhu was also trying to draw the image of how “vested interests” are trying to create a fearful environment in the state ahead of the elections as the blame-game begins.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah was also briefed about the Ludhiana Court Blast earlier. The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report on the incident.
