Chandigarh: Newly appointed Punjab Congress President, Navjot Singh Sidhu has stirred a new controversy, annoying the protesting farmers. The leaders of the United Kisan Morcha, who has been leading the farmers' movement for over a year, are furious on Sidhu’s remark claiming himself a ‘well’ while describing the protesting farmers as ‘thirsty’

On the day of his coronation, Sidhu excitedly declared himself a ‘well’ while inviting the agitating farmers for a talk.

Sidhu said, “Today I want to say to the farmers front that 'Pyaasa khuh kol aunda hai, khuh pyase kol nahi aaunda' (Everyone who thirsts, come to the well). I want to invite you to meet me for solving farm laws. I know you will not allow the three black laws to be implemented. I know that the government will also be toppled, but what is the solution, let's think about it. How can the power of our government be used?

While condemning the Navjot Sidhu for his utter statement, Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala, Leader of United Kisan Morcha said Sidhu’s arrogance has gone to his head as he used this adage for the farmers, who were sitting on dhrana for over seven months and achieving martyrdom at the Delhi border to pressurizing the Modi government to repeal the farm laws. The farmer leader further said that Navjot Sidhu and other Congress leaders, who have humiliated the farmers, will also be gheraoed in Punjab in the coming days.

The controversy escalated further on Saturday when Sidhu while commenting on media queries over the farmer’s issue during his interaction with media persons at Chamkor Sahib, where he was shown black flags by the protesting farmers, claimed that “everything he says and speaks is well thought”. While taking a dig, Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala said Sidhu does not have a constitutional post, and a party president cannot do anything.

“We (protesting farmers) are standing in front of the corporate houses with their chests open to bear gunshots and comedian Sidhu calling the warriors thirsty,” he said. Punjab Kisan-Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee President Swaran Singh Pandher said that Sidhu has become intoxicated with his new authority. Till date, even Congress national president Sonia Gandhi has not called the farmers then under which authority Sidhu has been inviting us? If at all he has any power to get the agriculture law repealed, then he should organize a movement against the central government by using his office, he added.
