Singhu Border Murder: 15 Dalit outfits demand strict action against culprit

Many political parties and religious groups have condemned the act and have demanded a strict probe against the culprits.

On Saturday, around 15 Dalit outfits have submitted the memorandum to the National Commission for Scheduled Caste and have demanded strict action against the culprits, who have killed a Dalit man and tied his body to a police barricade at Singhu border. 


Lakhbir Singh, a 35-year-old Punjabi man from the Tarn Taran district, was brutally murdered early Friday morning. His body was found with the left hand and right leg chopped off, tied to a police barricade. His body bore over 10 wounds caused by sharp-edged weapons.

Reportedly, the 15 outfits, which have submitted the memorandum include, the Akhil Bharatiya Khatik Samaj, Akhil Bharatiya Berwa Vikas Sangh, Dhanak Welfare Association and other organizations of Dalit employees and professionals. 


‘Nihangs’ have been blamed for this incident and today Saravjeet Singh surrendered to police. Following his surrender on Friday, Singh was brought before a local court today and sentenced to seven days in police custody. 


The authorities had argued for 14 days, claiming that Sarvjeet had given them information on four other suspects and that they had to retrieve the murder weapons. His video admitting responsibility for the murder went viral.

On Friday, the National Commission for Scheduled Caste asked the Haryana Police to probe the case and arrest the men behind the brutal murder.
