Smouldering coal in ‘Angithi’ causes Jalandhar family to suffocate overnight; woman dead, son and husband hospitalised

The resulting coal gas from the smoldering coal caused the family to suffocate while they were sleeping

A woman has died due to suffocation due to smoke from the fireplace in Jalandhar, Punjab. The woman's two-year old children and husband have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The whole family had closed the room and slept with the ‘anigthi’ (fireplace) lit. According to the information received, the incident took place in Mohalla Gobindgarh. The woman has been identified as Kajal.

 

The entire family is originally from Nepal. Husband Vishal was living with his wife along with his two children in a house in Mohalla Gobindgarh for the last three months. Vishal runs a fast food shop near a private college. He also has two employees working for him.

 

According to the information received, the employees working at Vishal's shop live in a house in front of the deceased’s house. Vishal had called the employees to his house at around four in the morning. But till then everything was fine. The employees returned again at seven in the morning, they saw that everyone's condition was critical. The woman had died and the rest of the family was unconscious.
