South Indian filmmaker Thamira no more: died due to COVID complications

He was undergoing treatment at Chennai’s Maya Hospital in Ashok Pillar where the director took his last breath.

One of the most popular directors of the Tamil film industry, Thamira has passed away today on April 27 after being tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He was undergoing treatment at Chennai’s Maya Hospital in Ashok Pillar where the director took his last breath. Earlier the hospital released a statement that reads, “Patient Sheik Dawood 53 years old male got admitted on 7.4.2021 morning with severe Covid-19 pneumonia. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit directly with severe respiratory distress and with oxygen levels of 80% on room air”. To be noted that Thamira was born with the name Sheik Dawood.

Many South Indian celebrities have mourned the death of Thamira. Trade analyst Kunishk LM wrote, "Tragic death of Director Thamira (Aan Devadhai, Rettai Suzhi Fame) while fighting Corona. He breathed his last this morning. May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. "

Actress Ramya Pandian  also wrote a heartfelt note for the filmmaker, "I have always been an admirer of Thamira Sir's scriptwriting abilities. His love and passion for Tamil have inspired many people including me. Beyond all this, what makes him special is his dealings with the people around him. During 'Aan Devadhai' he used to show respect to the entire cast and crew members. He never fails to appreciate the talent and that too wholeheartedly. He has supported me. And has taken care of me like members of his family. It is a personal loss. Thank you for everything sir. You are fondly remembered. Deepest condolences to the family. "
