The final tribute was paid to Jammu and Kashmir police Assistant sub-inspector Ghulam Hassan on Tuesday. Meanwhile, an anti-terror operation is underway in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir to nab the assailants. #JaagoKashmir trends on Twitter as netizens express grief over the incident.

On Monday night, gallant ASI Gulam Hassan and police officer Shafiq Ali died in the line of duty, while another officer of the 9th Battalion, Constable Rameez Ahmad, died of injuries on Tuesday morning.

As many as, 11 officials have been injured in the attack and are being treated at the hospital.

Terrorists on Monday evening attacked a police bus at Srinagar's Pantha Chowk. The bus was fired upon from multiple directions. The area has been cordoned off and an operation has been started to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, a top police official on Tuesday claimed that the attack on the bus was preplanned because the armed police unit was returning to camp at the same time it
always did after performing routine operations. Inspector-General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar speaking to media, informed, "A bus carrying 25 police officers was returning to the camp as usual when three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists started firing on the vehicle."

According to Mr Kumar, one of the assailants was a local, while the other two were foreign terrorists.

"We've received a lot of input on the group. We'll put an end to this gang soon, "he stated. The IGP praised the officers, saying they retaliated and made sure the terrorists didn't get their hands on the weapons.

"In the retaliatory firing, one of the terrorists was hurt, and a blood trail could be seen for quite some distance... They made their way to Khrew. We're working on that right now," he said.

The terrorists took advantage of the darkness, Mr Kumar added, because the road leading to the police camp at Zewan was not well illuminated and the security forces' road opening party had left for the day. "All precautionary measures are being taken, including the installation of road lights," he added.
