Student goes on shooting rampage in Russia’s Perm State University

Initial reports claimed that the shooter was carrying a weapon that was ‘traumatic non-lethal’ but later was confirmed as ‘lethal’.

At least eight people were killed and six injured in a shooting incident by an unidentified person on the campus of Perm State University in Russia. 

Videos circulating on social media websites showed students jumping on campus walls to escape the shooter. The initial reports revealed the shooter is a student of the university who has now been neutralised and detained. Reportedly, he has been injured in the incident.

According to TASS, Russia’s local new agency, the shooter walked into the university building and started firing. A few students who were in the building at the time locked themselves in the auditorium while many jumped out of the windows.

As per sources, campus security and local police had reached the campus shortly after the first few shots were fired. Initially, four people were reportedly injured in the incident but as per the latest updates, the number of dead has risen to six.
