Gurvinder Singh, who was posted with the CIA-1 Wing of theBathinda police attempted suicide late night in jail by inflicting self-injuryusing sharp object to his neck and hands.

He was unsuccessful and the authorities immediately got him admittedto Civil Hospital for treatment in addition to a medical checkup.

At the time of writing, he back in jail.

On Wednesday, he was caught red-handed and on camera in acompromising position with a woman in the latter’s house.

Theincident took place at woman’s house in Bucho town in Bathinda. The womanalleged that the ASI in question had sought sexual favours and had repeatedlyraped her after implicating her son in an NDPS case.

The womanin her complaint to the police said that ASI Gurwinder Singh has registered afalse case against her 20-year-old son under the NDPC Act. She said thepoliceman deliberately lodged a case against his son in order to pressurize herinto a physical relationship with him.

Meanwhile,the video of incident has gone viral on social media sites and people from allwalks of life are raising questions on the law and order situation in thestate. “Earlier Punjab Police was harassing poor people on streets, now theyhave stoop even low and are raping woman inside their homes”, a social mediauser commented.

Inaddition, the villagers have sought a fair probe into the matter and release ofthe victim’s son along with strict punishment for the ASI.

As perreports, a case had been registered against the ASI after the village residentsapproached higher police officials in district.

BathindaSSP Bhupinderjit Singh Virk said that an inquiry has been initiated in thematter and woman’s statements have been registered. Besides they have alsostarted the process to dismiss ASI from service.
