ASI allegedly caught raping a woman attempted suicide at police station

The man allegedly raped a woman yesterday in her home, and was caught red-handed.

Gurvinder Singh, who was posted with the CIA-1 Wing of the Bathinda police attempted suicide late night in jail by inflicting self-injury using sharp object to his neck and hands.

He was unsuccessful and the authorities immediately got him admitted to Civil Hospital for treatment in addition to a medical checkup.

At the time of writing, he back in jail.

On Wednesday, he was caught red-handed and on camera in a compromising position with a woman in the latter’s house.

The incident took place at woman’s house in Bucho town in Bathinda. The woman alleged that the ASI in question had sought sexual favours and had repeatedly raped her after implicating her son in an NDPS case.

The woman in her complaint to the police said that ASI Gurwinder Singh has registered a false case against her 20-year-old son under the NDPC Act. She said the policeman deliberately lodged a case against his son in order to pressurize her into a physical relationship with him.

Meanwhile, the video of incident has gone viral on social media sites and people from all walks of life are raising questions on the law and order situation in the state. “Earlier Punjab Police was harassing poor people on streets, now they have stoop even low and are raping woman inside their homes”, a social media user commented.

In addition, the villagers have sought a fair probe into the matter and release of the victim’s son along with strict punishment for the ASI.

As per reports, a case had been registered against the ASI after the village residents approached higher police officials in district.

Bathinda SSP Bhupinderjit Singh Virk said that an inquiry has been initiated in the matter and woman’s statements have been registered. Besides they have also started the process to dismiss ASI from service.
