Former Congress councillor Sushil Kalia alias Vicky close aide of MLA Bawa Henry in Jalandhar died hours later after consuming poison. It came to the notice of his family members and relatives after his condition started to deteriorate and was soon rushed to the hospital.

Kalia who was accused in a case of misappropriation of the MLAs fund has left a one-and-a-half-page suicide note accusing former MLA K.D. Bhandari of torturing him besides naming Raj Kumar Sharma, his wife and son over extortion in lieu of providing him relief against the corruption charges that he was facing.

At the beginning of the suicide note he mentioned whatever he is writing is in full consciousness and goes on to discuss events that forced him to take such a gruesome step.

However, former MLA Bhandari has denied all forms of allegations against him terming them “baseless” saying, he had not been in touch with Kalia for years. He said that last year he met the officials of 5 societies in his region who were accused of misappropriation of the government fund and together went on to meet the police for launching a detailed investigation.

Accusing Akash Sharma of Shiv Nagar of asking him a sum of ₹20 Lakhs to settle the matter, in which ₹15 Lakhs was to be paid to the Judge and Police while other ₹5 Lakhs to turn down the witnesses.

Kalia detailing the conversation in his suicide note asked, “Who are they”, to which in response as written in the death note, he named the following Bhushan Luther, Jatinder Chopra, his son Ginny Chopra, Rajan Sharda, his daughter Kritika Sharda, Ashwini, Vinod Sharma, Rakesh Malhotra (Guddu), Jai Mahendru and a few other accusing them of giving money, while they blackmailed him.

Further, he added, “They said, Police, Session Court, High Court, and Supreme Court all work on our call.” He even mentioned that they said to him (Sushil Kalia) that “we will torture you to an extent that you will be forced to end your life and if not, we will kill you.”

Soon after the matter came to light SHO Jatinder Kumar said we have launched a probe into the matter, “We will record the statement of the victim’s family and will launch the course of action accordingly.”

Furthermore, he said, “It is hard to comment on anything too early we will respond only once we get on to a particular consensus on the matter.”

Towards the end of his death note, he pleads to the Commissioner of Police and Court to launch an investigation and arrest those he has accused of forcing him to take such step, saying that “These people keep police and courts in their pockets, lives of how much families like that of mine will get devastated.”

The doctors started his treatment soon after he reached but couldn’t save him however, the information coming through the relatives that directed the condition remains to be critical.

Last year, the police registered a case of corruption against Sushil Kalia, the close aide of MLA Bawa Henry and his family. Sushil Kalia and his family members were accused of misuse of MLA funds. He had taken bail from the Punjab Haryana High Court in the case, but his son did not get bail from the court. After this, the matter of bail reached the Supreme Court, however, no relief was granted.
