Teaser out: Late Puneeth Rajkumar's wildlife documentary Gandhada Gudi to hit theatres in 2022

Late actor Puneeth Rajkumar's dream project, Gandhada Gudi is set to release in theatres in 2022. Shivarajkumar, Puneeth's older brother, and Yash (of KGF fame) rushed to Twitter to share the Gandhara Gudi teaser and discuss how important the film was for Puneeth.


The wildlife documentary is expected to be a visual treat. Amoghavarsha-directed film featuring late film icon Puneeth Rajkumar shows the importance of land and nature. The unveiling of the film coincides with the birth anniversary of the actor’s mother Parvathamma Rajkumar.

Karnataka's jungles, beautiful beaches, and underwater world are all explored in this film. Puneeth linked up with well-known wildlife director Amoghavarsha JS to take a trip through the Karnataka woods and the project has been in the works for a long time. Gandhada Gudi, which translates to "temple of sandalwoods," is the title of the film.

It was also the title of a 1973 hit by late acting icon Dr Rajkumar, which talked about the significance of maintaining the sanctity and wealth of Karnataka's jungles.

"Appu’s dream, an incredible journey, a celebration of our land and it's legend. It's time for the return - Gandhada Gudi" tweeted Amoghavarsha. Puneeth's elder brother Shivarjkumar also shared the teaser of the film on social media platforms.

"I remember the twinkle in your eyes every time u spoke about this project. The passion, the enthusiasm u had towards this film showed how close it was to your heart. Thank you Appu sir for showing our Gandhadagudi through your eyes. It's truly a paradise,” wrote KGF fame Yash.


Gandhada Gudi is currently in post-production and will hit theatres in 2022. The film stars Puneeth and Amoghavarsha and is produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar. In the coming weeks, more information about this film will be released.

The technical team includes music director Ajaneesh Loknath, cinematographer Pratheek Shetty and creative director Swati Krishna Sharan.

Puneeth Rajkumar, 46, died after a major heart attack on October 29. Months before his death, the actor had completed the filming of Gandhada Gudi. Puneeth was working on a number of other initiatives to reach out to a wider audience outside of his home state of Karnataka.
