Colombo: Post six serial bomb blasts tormented entire Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, Thawheed Jamaat, which call themselves a non-political Islamic organisation, active in Tamil Nadu is seen to be prime suspect behind the dreaded act. The Jamaat have drawn attention to an arc of radicalisation widening from the Maldives to Bangladesh where Islamic State-inspired elements have been regularly correlated to terror incidents.
However, counter-terrorism specialists say it would be difficult for a local group to carry out coordinated attacks of the magnitude seen yesterday.
Ironically, the concept of suicide bombing was virtually invented by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) decades ago.

The Wahhabi-aligned Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat (SLTJ) has found traction in the country's eastern province and has been pushing Sharia law with burqas for women and building mosques to disseminate hard-line messages.
However, the dreaded act has also been linked to the ISIS group due to the pattern of bomb blasts. It is similar to the attacks took place at the Holey Artisan Bakery suicide attack in Dhaka in 2016, which was carried out by local boys but trained by Islamic State.
