The lead role casting for 'Dostana 2' is still on and is much awaited by the industry and all the cinema lovers. Everyone is reluctant to know who will eventually replace Kartik Aaryan. Now there are rumors that Akshay Kumar is replacing Kartik Aaryan. Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar are old-time friends.
As per various sources, Karan Johar has personally approached the actor to join the film and there are good possibilities that Akshay will join the film. It will be interesting to see if any such surprise coming from Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar.
At present, even the officials of Dharma Production are unable to say anything about this. However, apart from this film, Akshay is also doing science fiction 'Mission Lion' which will start next year. A close source associated with the project shared a few exclusive information about the actor. The source said, 'Akshay sir has a lot of commitments this year. We will be able to start it next year. The rest of this film is not from the science fiction genre. This is an emotional drama. Just a little science is attached to it. The media is reporting that this is science fiction, but it is not”.

The rom-com is directed by Collin D’Cunha under the production banner of Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, and Apoorva Mehta. Dostana 2 is the sequel for the 2008 release which had Abhishek Bachchan and John Abrahim. As of now, there are no official confirmations made by the actor or the production houses for the settlement of the lead role.
