Tihar jail seeks new execution date for Nirbhaya case convicts after President rejected Pawan Gupta's mercy plea, hearing tomorrow

On Wednesday, Tihar jail authorities moved Delhi court to seek a new fresh execution date for the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case convicts. The court has issued notices to the four death-row convicts and will hear the matter on Thursday at 2 pm.

The matter has arised again after President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy plea of Pawan Gupta, one of the four convicts. Apparently, the President had already rejected the mercy petition of three other three convicts--Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Kumar Singh. However, earlier for the three times,  the Patiala Court had issued death warrants for the four convicts and finalised their date of execution.

However, the executions were delayed for all the times due to pending pleas filed by the four convicts. A mercy plea is the last remedy available to the person who is sentenced to hang till death.
