Twitter in trouble: Delhi Police files another FIR over child pornography content

Reports Announcements India

Ever since Twitter has shown non-compliant behavior towards the new IT rules formed by the Centre, it is consecutively landing in trouble. On Tuesday, the Delhi Police has lodged a fourth FIR against the micro-blogging platform over the child pornography content.

The complaints and cases against Twitter started forming after the platform lost its legal immunity for content posted by users while it was engulfed in war of words with the Indian government.

Notably, the fresh case has been filed by the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police under the Posco Act and the IT Act followed by a complaint of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

NCPCR in its complaint has alleged that restricted or pornographic content involving children was consistently showing up on the social media app. Notably, the NCPCR has already raised the concern earlier and has written two letter-one to the Cyber Cell and the other to the Delhi Police chief. It has also directed Cyber Cell’s senior official to appear before it on June 29.

Earlier this month, a case was filed against the micro-blogging site in Ghaziabad in connection with the tweets on the alleged assault of a Muslim man. The case hearing is due in the Supreme Court as Twitter India chief Manish Maheshwari managed to get protection from arrest on the orders of Karnataka High Court.

Maheshwari has also been named in another controversial act for presenting an incorrect India’s map on its website showing Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh as separate countries. Based on this act, another FIR has been lodged against Maheshwari in Madhya Pradesh.
