Just hours after the second phase of polling ended in Assam on Thursday, a video started making rounds on social media that allegedly showed electronic voting machines (EVMs) were being transported in the car of BJP MLA from Patharkandi, Krishnendu Paul. He is also a candidate contesting polls. An Assam-based journalist Atanu Bhuyan who Tweeted the video also mentioned that the situation was getting tense in Patharkandi following the incident. Several opposition leaders have urged the Election Commission to take a decisive decision and alleged that BJP is resorting to malpractices in Assam. Leaders called it a sad state of democracy. After the EVM machine issue became a spur, the EC suspended 4 poll officials including a presiding officer and ordered a fresh poll at the Assam station.
