Two doctors of Jalandhar held for illicit supply of anti-viral drug Remdesivir

The police have recovered Remdesivir injections and vials from both doctors

Tightening the noose over the illicit suppliers of antiviral drug Remdesivir, Jalandhar Health Department, and Police held two doctors for bootlegging the drug. Notably, it was a collaborative lookout operation of the health officials and police to curb the bootlegging practice in the city.

Search team officials on late Saturday night held two doctors from the MGK Medical Centre, situated on Mithapur Road for selling the medicine in an illegal manner. As per the preliminary findings, Police have recovered antiviral drug injections, which have been stocked from Rajasthan.

Pertinently, the Health Department received information that a few people are involved in the black marketing of Remdesivir and are giving the injection to others at an exorbitant price.

Under the supervision of ASP Model Town Harinder Singh and Inspector Rashminder Singh Sidhu of Divison Number 7, ASI Kamaljit Singh upon attaining the information from the health department has arrested Dr. Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Gurmeet Nagar, Mithapur Road, and Doctor Raman Kumar, a resident of Gandhi Camp, Jalandhar from the medical centre.

The police have recovered Remdesivir injections and vials from both doctors. However, during an interrogation, both doctors could not give credible answers. A case has been registered against them under IPC 420.
