Intwo separate cases, the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police on Saturday, arrestedtwo persons for browsing, viewing and sharing objectionable content related tochildren on social media platforms.

Thosearrested have been identified as Ranjit Tiwari (23), a resident of GurpalNagar, Ludhiana and Vikram Singh (20), a resident of Bhagwan Nagar, Ludhiana.

Commissionerof Police (CP) Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal said that following reports fromCyberTipline, the Cyber Cell of Ludhiana Police arrested Matric-passed RanjitTewari, who was found sharing Child Pornographic content on his Instagram ID.Earlier an FIR was registered under section 67B of the Information Technology(IT) Act at Police Station Division-6 Ludhiana, he added.

ThePolice Commissioner said that, in another case, Vikram Singh, who is 11thpassed and pursuing Diploma, was running an Instagram ID  and used to share objectionable contentrelated to children on his profile.

CyberTipline—a nation's centralized reporting system for the online exploitation ofchildren, being run under the supervision of Ministry of Home Affairs,Government of India, regularly monitors various social media platforms andinternet websites to keep check on online enticement and objectionable contentrelated to children.

CPRakesh Agrawal said that the Ludhiana Police in association with centralagencies have been keeping vigil on such activities and strict action will betaken against the culprits.

Whileexhorting public to refrain from sharing any kind of child pornography orpornographic videos of any kind, knowingly or unknowingly, on any social mediaplatforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp etc, Police Commissioner said thatit is a serious crime under section 67B of the IT act, which entailsimprisonment upto 5 years and a fine of upto Rs 10 Lakh. "Even sharing avideo having pornography content can land you in jail," he added.

CPRakesh Agrawal also urged citizens of Ludhiana to immediately bring to thenotice of Police Authorities in case they find any objectionable contentcirculating online. They can inform cyber cell of Ludhiana police onCyber.ldh.police@punjab.gov.in

Meanwhile, ADCPInvestigation Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, ACP Cyber Crime Vaibhav Sehgal and ACPKulwant Singh are monitoring social media profiles of suspects to gather moreinformation about such criminals.
