Two Nihangs shot dead in police encounter in Tarn Taran

Both the deceased were wanted in connection with a murder case in Nanded Sahib Sach Khand Sri Hazur Sahib.

Two Nihang Sikhs were killed, while two police personnel were seriously injured in an encounter today at the Singhpura (Bhikhiwind) village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, late in the evening.

The two ''Nihangs'', identified as Mehatab Singh and Gurdev Singh, were wanted in a murder case at Nanded Sahib Sach Khand Sri Hazur Sahib in Maharashtra.

As per information, the mobile location of the Nihangs was traced in Sursingh village, after which the Nanded Police alerted the Punjab Police and a team of two SHOs were sent to nab them.

It was after the accused attacked the two SHOs of Valtoha and Khemkaran police stations with swords, leaving them critically injured, a heavy police force was called on the spot.

After that an encounter broke out between the accused and police personnel in which the two ''Nihangs'' were shot dead and Bhikhiwind DSP Rajbir Singh had a narrow escape.

Meanwhile, both the SHOs namely Balwinder Singh and Narinder Singh had been undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Amritsar.
