WASHINGTON: The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Saturday asserted that the United States’ H-1B visas have reached to its limit for financial year 2020. As per the congress mandate the visa cap for the H-1B is 65,000.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa of the United States under the Immigration and Nationality act that allows US employers to temporarily hire foreign workers in specialty profession. The duration of stay is three years, extendable to six years; after which the visa holder may need to reapply.

The USCIS, stated, it will next decide whether it has gotten an adequate number of petitions to meet the 20,000 H-1B visa US propelled degree exclusion, known as the master cap.

The organization said it will reject and return visa expenses for all unselected top subject petitions that are not precluded numerous filings. It will proceed to acknowledge and process petitions that are generally excluded from the top.

According to the statistics revealed by the USCIS H-1B petitions approved in FY 2017, 75.6% reported that the beneficiary was born in India. The second most prevalent country of birth of H-1B beneficiaries was the People Republic of China, representing 9.4% of all beneficiaries. The number of beneficiaries from India approved for initial employment decreased by 4.1% in FY 2017, while the number of beneficiaries approved for continuing employment increased by 12.5% in FY 2017.

Although the amendment in the law will give preferences to those who have completed their post-graduation degree course from any US educational institutions.
