The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar has sparked a significant travel shift in Jammu & Kashmir. With breathtaking views, faster connectivity, and affordable fares, the train service is seeing overwhelming demand—so much so that both Vande Bharat trains on this route are fully booked until the end of July.

This surge in rail travel has directly impacted the aviation sector. Flight bookings have dropped, and in response, airlines have slashed fares by up to 50%. One-way tickets from Delhi to Srinagar, which earlier cost over ₹7,000, are now available for as low as ₹3,700.

According to railway officials, around 1,000 passengers are traveling daily on each of the Vande Bharat trains. On June 19 alone, more than 1,300 passengers boarded the train. In total, about 52 trains are currently operating daily on this route, making rail travel highly accessible and convenient for both tourists and local commuters.

The train’s schedule is designed to offer flexibility. The first train departs from Katra at 8:10 AM and arrives in Srinagar at 11:08 AM. It then returns from Srinagar at 2:55 PM, reaching Katra at 5:53 PM. The second train departs Srinagar at 8:00 AM and reaches Katra by 11:00 AM. It makes its return journey at 2:00 PM and arrives back in Srinagar by 5:00 PM.

The ticket fares are also playing a major role in attracting travelers. Chair car tickets range from ₹1,300 to ₹1,400, while executive class seats cost between ₹2,300 and ₹2,400—making it a cost-effective and comfortable option.

Business owners and tour operators are calling the train service a game-changer for the region. It’s not just helping tourists explore the beauty of Kashmir, but also aiding trade and movement of locals between Katra and Srinagar.

With the ongoing summer travel season and reduced airfares, the Vande Bharat Express is clearly redefining travel in Jammu & Kashmir—combining scenic beauty, affordability, and speed in a way that’s winning hearts across the country.
