Vigilance nabs a man in reverse trap for offering a bribe of Rs 55k to ACST

Aiming to curb the menace of corruption among the society, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a private person for offering Rs. 50000 to Addl Commissioner state tax (ACST) in lieu of exempting GST on tobacco products.

Disclosing this here, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau BK Uppal said a private person Varun Mahajan of Jalandhar city was arrested on the complaint of ACST (GST) Jalandhar Dipender Singh Garcha. The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused Varun Mahajan, an agent was offering him Rs 50,000 to release his consignment of tobacco products without paying GST which was received through railway at Jalandhar station.

After verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a reverse trap and the accused Varun Mahajan was arrested on the spot while offering a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation was in progress.
