Aiming to curb the menace of corruption among thesociety, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a private person for offeringRs. 50000 to Addl Commissioner state tax (ACST) in lieu of exempting GST ontobacco products.

Disclosing this here, Chief Director-cum-DGP VigilanceBureau BK Uppal said a private person Varun Mahajan of Jalandhar city wasarrested on the complaint of ACST (GST) Jalandhar Dipender Singh Garcha. Thecomplainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused Varun Mahajan,an agent was offering him Rs 50,000 to release his consignment of tobaccoproducts without paying GST which was received through railway at Jalandharstation.

After verifying his information, the vigilance team laida reverse trap and the accused Varun Mahajan was arrested on the spot whileoffering a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to the complainant in the presence of two officialwitnesses.

He informed that a case under Prevention of CorruptionAct has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar andfurther investigation was in progress.
