In a massive development, Punjab Vigilance Bureau and Punjab Police on Wednesday morning carried out a joint operation under the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' (War on Drugs) campaign. As per information received, raids are being carried out at a total of 25 locations across Punjab, with 9 of them in Amritsar, including the residence of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
Initial reports suggest that 30 Vigilance officials reached Majithia’s Green Avenue home in Amritsar in the morning, accompanied by Vigilance SSP Lakhbir Singh, who is personally leading the operation. Though no official statement has been released yet, it has been revealed that the action is linked to ongoing investigations into drug trafficking and alleged use of drug money. Sources further revealed that the raids are part of a focused drive to trace drug-related financial networks and target individuals suspected of being involved in the narcotics trade.
As the raid is still ongoing, Bikram Majithia released a video in which he was seen confronting officials. His wife, Ganieve Kaur, alleged that 30 officers entered their house during the raid.
