Virat Kohli congratulates LPU for breaking participation record in Tokyo Olympics

According to a press release by LPU University, Jalandhar, 11 students of the institution are part of the Indian contingent, representing the country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, congratulated Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, Punjab on breaking the record for Olympic participation. He took to Twitter and urged LPU to do send their skilled players in cricket too.

His tweet read, "What a record. 10 percent of Indian Olympians are from Lovely Professional University. I hope LPU will send students to the Indian Cricket team also! Jai Hind."

He posted the same tweet on Instagram and captioned “India needs 10 more LPUs. Best of luck to the 11 LPU students who are representing India at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Truly a great achievement!”

According to a press release by LPU University, Jalandhar, 11 students of the institution are part of the Indian contingent, representing the country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

India's men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh, who is also an MBA student at LPU, led the Indian contingent during the opening ceremony in Tokyo on July 23, stated University. The press release further claims that this is the highest number of students ever selected to any Indian Olympic contingent from an Indian private university.

Seven members of the Indian men's hockey team are LPU students, including captain Manpreet Singh, Rupinderpal Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Varun Kumar, all MBA students and Dilpreet Singh, and Mandeep Singh, who are studying graduation.

Bajrang Punia, India's star wrestler, who is pursuing a master's degree in public administration is also part of the Tokyo Olympics, while Indian para-athlete Nishad Kumar, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree, has been selected for the Paralympics High Jump.

Neeraj Chopra (B.A), an Indian track and field athlete and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army, has been selected for the javelin throw. Amoj Jacob (B. P. Ed), an Indian sprinter who specialises in the 400 and 800 metres, will compete in the men's 4x400 Mt Relay-Race.

“We are happy that over 10% of the Indian Olympic participants are LPU students,” stated LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal.
