England defeated Team India by 227 runs in the first Test match. For England, captain Joe Root scored a brilliant double century in the first innings. At the same time, India did not score a century. In Test cricket, the drought of centuries for Indian batsmen has been going on for the last almost a year.

India has played seven Test matches since 2020. Of these, only one century has been scored from India. During this time, more Test centuries have been scored by India than all the other Test teams of the world. Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and West Indies are also ahead of India.

After India's defeat questions are being raised on Kohli's ability to lead India at the International level. Kohli's selection of Nadeem in-place of Kuldeep Yadav shocked everyone. Even many cricket experts said that Kuldeep Yadav must have played the Chennai test. Later on, the absence of Kuldeep was felt on the ground.

However,  Virat does not think that way. In the post-match press conference when a journalist asked about whether he will look back at his decision to play Nadeem instead of Kuldeep, Kohli said, "Not really at all, because when you are playing two off-spinners Kuldeep more or less becomes similar kind of spinner taking the ball away. So you need variety in the bowling attack. We were quite clear on what we wanted to play, what combination wanted to play and there are no regrets whatsoever on that decision. Moving forward we will think of the combination which brings us variety as a bowling attack and not one-dimensional where the ball is only turning away from the bat. So these things are very important to understand."
