Witnessing the critical condition of India due to a deadly second wave of coronavirus, several countries have come forward and helped India in anyway possible. Kenya has donated 12 tonnes of nuts, coffee and tea which are produced locally as covid19 relief to India. The relief stock was sent to the Indian Red Cross Society and the packets will be distributed across Maharashtra with food aid.

Willy Bett, high commissioner of the African Country to India said, “The Government of Kenya wishes to stand in solidarity with people and government of India during this time of the Covid19 pandemic by donating consumable food stuffs.”

As much as Indians are moved by this kind gesture of Kenya, people are not pleased with the Indian government. They are criticizing the Modi government once again, as Kenya is a much- smaller county and one with limited resources in comparison to India.

Netizens are asking India’s pride and self-respect back from the Modi government. Criticizing Prime Minister Modi, one of the social media users tweeted, “First time in history, Kenya had sent aid to India. All because of #7yearsOfModiMadeDisaster.” Meanwhile, another wrote, “Today Kenya sent Aid to India. From Vishwa Guru to Vishwa Bikhari, all thanks to Modiji.”

Bett has handed over the food articles and said that the donation is directed to the frontline caregivers who continue to work long hours to save lives. Indian Red Cross Society Vice-Chairman from Maharashtra branch, Homi Khusrokhan has said that the donation symbolizes the empathy that the people of Kenya have for the people of India and is re-assuring.

The second wave of coronavirus has hit India severely and the situation is still not better. People are losing their lives because the health system has collapsed due to the shortage of oxygen supply, hospital beds and anti-covid drugs. The country has commenced its third drive of vaccination allowing people above 18 to be eligible to get vaccine jab, though there is a massive COVID vaccine shortage.
