Commending the initiatives taken by Patiala Central Jail authorities to make jail inmates perfect by equipping them with training of various skills, District and Sessions Judge Mr. Rajinder Agarwal said that it would pave the way for meeting the purpose of creating a healthy society for the betterment of the inmates as well as rehabilitation. He said that this would enable the inmates to earn their own living and stay away from the world of crime after getting release from Jail.
Mr. Agarwal was today at Central Jail to distribute certificates to women prisoners on the occasion of completion of 210th Skill Training Course for Women Prisoners in collaboration with State Bank of Patiala's Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI).
He said that by imparting vocational training to the inmates in the jails, they will get some remuneration besides good use of thier leisure time.
Terming Women Prisoners' Training in Making Jute file covers, bags, handbags and decorative items, beneficial for the environment, the District and Sessions Judge said that it was a good idea to use jute products to protect our environment from pollution and to keep our surroundings plastic free. He congratulated RSETI for the success of the program.
On this occasion the Superintendent of Central Jail S. Shivraj Singh Nandgarh said that efforts are being made by Jail Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) to get the Central Jail factory back on track for the rehabilitation of inmates inside the jail.
Mr. Nandgarh said that in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development and RSETI of State Bank of India, a program has been launched to impart special skills to the inmates in the jails and to impart skills to the inmates. Training has also been imparted for preparation of files, bags, handbags, decorative items etc. from jute material.
On this occasion, the Director of RSETI Mr. Rajiv Sirhindi informed that the all the women prisoners have passed an exam related to training with good marks. He said that after their release from jail, they would be provided subsidized loans by State Bank of India to start their own work.
CJM Ms. Tripatjot Kaur, Ms. Deepti Gupta, Lead Bank Manager PS Anand, Deputy Superintendents of Jail Harcharan Singh Gill and Harjot Singh Kler, Harjinder Kaur, Assistant Superintendent Jagjit Singh, RSETI Faculty Chandan Puneet Singh and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
