Watch Priyanka Gandhi's 'Jhumur’ dance with young girls of tea tribes in poll-bound Assam

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday partook in a traditional 'Jhumur' dance with young girls of tea tribes in Assam’s Lakhimpur district during her two-day visit to the poll-bound state.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a video shared by the party on Twitter, Gandhi is seen holding hands and participating in a traditional ‘Jhumur’ dance with young girls of tea tribes in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. In a one-minute-long dance video, Priyanka 

Gandhi Vadra was surrounded by a huge crowd including security personnel and media. She was captured by the camera as she danced to dhol beats and singing of the young girls.

  

Dressed in a dark purple saree and a traditional scarf, the Congress leader was grooving with all smiles as she danced with the young girls in the minute-long video. The tribal girls were all dressed in red and white sarees. 

Priyanka Gandhi is in Assam on a two-day visit to launch the Congress's election campaign for the three-phased assembly polls in the state that begins from March 27.

Earlier, Gandhi had first visited the famous Kamakhya temple in Guwahati and offered prayers to the Goddess Kamakhya, pictures of which were shared on Twitter.

She then left for Lakhimpur, 370 km away, where she participated in local customs and traditions, including the 'Jhumur' dance.

The Congress tweeted that Ms Gandhi also initiated a statewide unemployment protest from Lakhimpur today.

  

Priyanka Gandhi has been visiting various cities and socialising with locals and joining in customs, most recent of which was when she took a rowing lesson from a boatman in Uttar Pradesh.
