Pushpa GujralScience City celebrated National Technology Day by organizing a webinar on“Invention and Innovations: Flexible Engineering Materials”. Around 150engineering college students from all over Punjab participated through virtualmode.
Dr Kushal Sen,Professor, Department of Textile Technology, IIT Delhi was the key speaker atthe occasion.
He said thatScience, Technology & Innovation play a very important role in the growthof national economy. Innovation can be a new approach to a problem, a change inbehavior, or a new way of using existing resources. Besides, fibres arebeautiful flexible materials which can be engineered to produce highlyattractive and useful products, he said.
He further addedfibres possess unique characteristics and can be modified to introduce variousfunctional properties to create various innovative products at scales varyingfrom macro, to micro, or to nano levels.
Dr. NeelimaJerath, Director General, Science City giving introductory remarks said thatsustainable future can only be achieved through Science and Technology. Sheinformed that Technology Day is celebrated to highlight the achievements of thecountry in the field of science & technology.
“The day marksthe anniversary of successful of the Pokhran nuclear tests and showcased India's technological advancements”,she said while urging the teaching community to motivate students to learn andapply scientific concepts in their daily life so as to ignite their interest inresearch and innovation.
Dr. RajeshGrover, Director Science City present at the occasion emphasized that the knowledge and skills ofthe students in various areas of science and technology must be enriched todevelop an informed and knowledgeable society.
