Real Story of 'Kurup':

Kurup, a native of Kerala's Alappuzha, is the main suspect in the slaying of one Chacko, who was discovered dead in a car on January 21, 1984, his body burnt beyond recognition.

Sukumara Kurup, a wealthy NRI guy who was building a grand mansion nearby, was suspected when the body was originally discovered. The main reason for suspicion was that the car found burnt in a field belonged to Kurup, and the victim was a wearing a dress of Kurup.
During the inquiry, however, authorities began to think that the body was not Kurup's and that foul activity was involved.

The reason behind the murder was that Kurup wants to solve his financial troubles through insurance money. He worked for a private company in Abu Dhabi and had taken out a Rs 8 lakh life insurance policy. He planned to claim the insurance money by faking his own death. The accused was attempting to obtain an unclaimed body that resembled Kurup's physical appearance in order to give the impression that Kurup died in a car accident.

The Kerala Police have been trying to solve the case of Sukumara Kurup ever since. Most investigators believe there was a delay in realising the charred body was not Kurup's, giving him time to run. Since then, there have been other reports of Kurup being seen, and he was once detained by police, who let him go after failing to establish his identification beyond a reasonable suspicion. None of these, however, have received officially acknowledged.

Don’t know he is still alive or dead but according to Kerala Police, they are still actively searching for him.Even today, police frequently receive anonymous callers claiming to have seen someone who looks like Kurup.

As per victim's family, which includes Chacko's son, who was born four months after his father was killed, Kurup, who should be around 75 years old is still alive in some foreign country.

Why 'Kurup' a controversial thriller?

Kurup, starring Dulquer Salmaan, has run into legal trouble. A complaint has been filed against the film at the Kerala High Court. On November 12, the Dulquer Salmaan film was released in theatres. A Kochi resident has launched a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). According to the complainant, the film may infringe on the privacy of Sukumara Krup, a known criminal on whom the film is based. Interpol, film producers, the federal government, and the state administration have all received notices from the Kerala High Court. However, the Kerala High Court did not imposed any stay order for the film and the film got released on Nov 12.
