Rick Froberg who was known as a lead vocalist and guitarist of several bands based in San Diego has tragically passed away at the age of 55. This news was confirmed by his longtime friend and also a co band mate John Reis, who on friday went onto instagram and wrote that he “passed away suddenly last night from natural causes.” However, death at the age of 55 has still puzzled Americans and rock fans. What happened to Rick Froberg?

As per reports, Rick Froberg died on Friday, June 30, 2023, due to an undiagnosed heart condition. The veteran frontman's death was announced by his bandmate and guitarist Swami John Reis as mentioned above. His farewell note for his friend says, "Rick passed away suddenly last night from natural causes. His art made life better. The only thing he loved more than art and rock n roll was his friends. He will forever be remembered for his creativity, vision, and his ability to bring beauty into this world." Reis concluded, "I love you, Rick. I will miss you for the rest of my life."

Froberg was an illustrator as well who used to design album covers for his bands, as well as for Rocket from the Crypt, Sparta and others.

He was a part of several national acts such as Pitchfork, Hot Snakes, Obits but most notably for Drive Like Jehu. Drive like Jehu was an Indie Rock band that signed to Interscope Records in 1990s.

He is credited with "bringing the knotty, overdriven sound of math rock into the mainstream," according to the Los Angeles Times. The Trash Lamb Gallery in San Diego's South Park neighborhood hosted a show of posters Froberg made for the area's underground music scene in 2022 called "Let My People Go: Art and Illustration 1988 to Present."

Rick Fork and Rick Farr were other aliases used by Froberg, who contributed to more than 20 albums. 2018 saw the release of "Jericho Sirens" with Hot Snakes, his most recent album.

Although his band Obits disbanded in 2015, the live CD "Die At the Zoo" was published in 2021. While the band was on tour, it was recorded in Brisbane, Australia, in 2012.

Froberg updated his Instagram account with several new pictures of himself two weeks ago and informed followers that "Hot Snakes, by the way, is working on a new record - very nearly done - so look out."
