Azim Premji has offered an idea to vaccinate 50 crore people in just 60 days. The WIPRO founder and a philanthropist urged the Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman to engage with private sector for speeding up the vaccination efforts against Covid-19.
According to Premji, by engaging with private sector, India could vaccinate 50 crore people in two months.
Premji said, "I think if the government was to engage the private industry quickly, we can rest assured that we can achieve a coverage of 500 million people within 60 days."
As he participated in the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce, he said it was a practicality. He added that by adding private sector, the vaccination efforts will get a big boost.
Premji is of the view that after making the vaccines in record time, the next challenge is to administer the vaccines to large number of people.
Premji was quoted by India Today, "There is a possibility that we can get the Serum Institute to supply vaccine at about Rs 300 per shot, and hospitals, private nursing homes can administer this at a cost of Rs 100 per shot. So with 400 rupees a shot, it is possible to do mass vaccination of the population."
