The Uvalde school shooting is yet again in the spotlight after 'Crisis of Command' premiered on Monday, Feb. 13, on ABC News Prime and Hulu. For the unversed, on May 24, 2022, a mass shooting occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, United States, where 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, a former student at the school shot nineteen students and two teachers, while seventeen others survived despite being injured. Before the Robb Elementary School massacre, Salvador Ramos, shot his grandmother in the face at home, severely wounding her. While the wounds of the people of Uvalde is still fresh, Crisis of Command has pointed out how the Texas Police authority failed to take timely action after a 10-year-old girl named Khloie Torres bravely called them and informed them about the crime hiding from Salvador Ramos- the shooter. As per a US media report, Khloie Torres called 911 while the shooter kept the school under seize. Below is how the call went-

Hiding from the shooter, Khloie called 911. "Uvalde County 911," was how the call started. "There's a school shooting at Robb Elementary School," said the hushed voice of a little girl. "Can you tell me your name?" the dispatcher asked. "Khloie," she whispered. "Please hurry, there's a lot of dead bodies," Khloie said. "Please, I'm going to die." The audio of Khloie's interactions with a police operator obtained and reviewed by a US media portal and are part of thousands of pieces of digital and documentary evidence collected by investigators. Now, the question arises who is Khloie Torres?

Who is Khloie Torres?

When the mass shooting took place, Khloie was a student of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, United States. Therefore, we can say Khloie Torres is a survivor of the deadly Uvalde school shooting. The 10-year-old witnessed what no child should witness ever in the world. Khloie Torres while speaking to Fox News in one of her old interviews talked about her late teacher said, “She told us we were going to go on a quick lockdown. So, my friend, he got up and turned off the TV because that's what we had to do. And, right when she went out to find the key and lock the door from the outside, we heard gunshots.” She further told the outlet, Garcia tried to close the door but Salvador managed to force his way inside. She added, “[Ms. Garcia] ran over to us, sat down and started covering my friend.” Garcia begged the gunman not to shoot. “She started saying ‘No!’ because he said ‘you will die’ and he shot my friend with the phone, and he shot my teachers Ms. [Irma] Garcia and Ms. [Eva] Mireles”, added Khloie. Spilling further details on the incident, Khloie revealed that the gunman walked around the classroom and shot at everyone he could see before arriving at her.

Uvalde Shooting

Police officers waited more than 1 hour and 14 minutes on-site before breaching the classroom to engage the shooter. Reportedly, Police also cordoned off the school grounds, resulting in violent conflicts between police and civilians, including parents, who were attempting to enter the school to rescue children. As a consequence, law enforcement officials in Uvalde have been heavily criticized for their response to the shooting, and their conduct is being reviewed in separate investigations by the Texas Ranger Division and the United States Department of Justice.

Coming to the shooter, he fired shots for approximately five minutes outside the school, before entering unobstructed with an AR-15-style rifle through an unlocked side entrance door. He then shut himself inside two adjoining classrooms, without locking the classroom door, killed the victims, and remained in the school for more than an hour before members of the United States Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) fatally shot him after they bypassed numerous local and state officers who had been in the school's hallways for over an hour. The shooting is the third-deadliest school shooting in the United States, after the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007 and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, and the deadliest in Texas.
