A 24-year-old newly inducted woman Police official is being hailed on social media after she went undercover as a student and busted a ragging case operational at the government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) medical college in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. As per reports, a student of the college had filed a complaint with the University Grants Commission (UGC) helpline, following which the institute’s administration filed a criminal case against unidentified students on July 24. Sanyogitaganj police station in-charge Tehzeeb Qazi was quoted by a newswire saying that the complaint by a student carried screenshots of chats on a social media platform, but the number of students involved had not been revealed. As a result, a woman police official was sent to the college, where she posed as a medical student and was able to connect all the dots in the case successfully to nail the accused. The name of the Police officer is Shalini Chouhan.

As per reports, Shalini Chouhan is at the constable post with the Madhya Pradesh police and is posted in Indore. She is 24 years old and is a college graduate in the commerce stream. Despite the change in subjects, she expertly posed as a medical student inside the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. Notably, Shalini is relatively new to the force, and this was her first undercover operation. As per reports, she was chosen for the job since her age made it easier for her to blend with the students. After spending three months as a medical student, Chouhan was able to uncover the ugly truth behind the ragging reports.

A newswire reported that Shalini used to go to the Indore college daily, 'bunk' classes, and hang out in the canteen for hours, building her rapport with the senior medical students. She was soon able to identify 11 seniors who were involved in brutally ragging juniors, forcing them to perform vulgar and traumatizing acts.

MGM College Ragging Case

Coming to the ragging case, with Shalini's inputs and probe it was revealed that the accused senior students had allegedly ragged their juniors by making them perform some obscene acts. Notices have been served to the accused under relevant provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and they have been asked to cooperate in the investigations and appear in court when the chargesheet is submitted. After getting a list of the accused students, the college administration has suspended them for three months with immediate effect last week.
