Gang-rivalry in Punjab turned personal when notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother Harjeet Kaur, and his associate Karanvir were shot dead late Thursday night. Harjeet Kaur (52) and Karanvir Singh (29), were inside their car around 9:07 PM when two assailants started firing from the driver’s side. Karanvir, who was behind the wheel, died on the spot. Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother, Harjeet, sitting in the passenger seat, sustained six bullet wounds and was rushed to the civil hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Hours after the firing incident, three gangsters affiliated with the Bambiha gang, namely, Doni Bal Billa Manga, Prabhu Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary, posted a statement on social media, claiming responsibility for the killings. The post reads-
"(Translated in English) Sat Sri Akal to our true warrior. We, Doni Bal, Prabhu Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary, take full responsibility for Karanvir’s killing in Batala. He managed all of Jaggu’s work, was a fugitive, and kept weapons and cash. We avenged our brother Gore Bariar’s murder through this justified act."

Who is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria?
Jagdeep Singh, alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, is a well-known name in Punjab. He is also called the Supari (Extortion) King of Punjab. Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was considered close to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. For the unversed, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was once an aspiring Kabaddi Player. He hailed from Bhagwanpur village in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
Kabaddi player Jagdeep Singh came from this village. After stepping into the world of crime, Jaspreet changed his name with the name of the village to Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and stepped into the world of gangsters. Along with a gangster from Punjab, Gurri, he carried out petty robberies, assaults, extortion, and then Jaggu started shedding blood for money. Jaggu became a contract killer and started getting paid a lot for it.
Earlier, Goldy Brar, Lawrence Bishnoi, and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria were friends, but now their paths are different. Goldy Brar and Bishnoi are in the same camp, but they have distanced themselves from Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Bishnoi and Goldy Brar had accused Jaggu of giving clues about the two killers of Sidhu Moosewala to the Punjab Police. Bishnoi and his associates suspected that Jaggu was spying for the Delhi Police and the Punjab Police. In such a situation, since then Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar are on one side, and Punjab's richest gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who was once their friend and has now become an enemy, is on the other side.
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria has been in jail since 2015. In 2020, an Amritsar court sentenced him to 12 years in drug trafficking and Arms Act cases. The notorious's name also came into the headlines during the murder case of Sidhu Moosewala. During the murder case, the accused was lodged in Tihar Jail with Lawrence. The police had taken him into custody and interrogated him in which he had informed the police about the phone conversation between Lawrence and Goldy Brar.
He is currently lodged in a high-security prison in Silchar, Assam. He is a known rival of the Davinder Bambiha Group. In 2025, the NCB shifted him from Bathinda to a high-security Assam jail under the NDPS Act, citing threats from rival gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi.
