WHO releases lockdown exit strategy for countries to follow

As most of the countries are under lockdown due to pandemic, the World Health Organization has released a few guidelines for the countries to follow in order to come out of the lockdown.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said, “We know that the virus can spread more easily in crowded environments like nursing homes. We know that early case-finding, testing, isolating caring for every case and tracing every contact is essential for stopping transmission”.He emphasized on why the measures should be lifted slowly and cannot happen at once. He also stated that in order for the restrictions to be eased, the public health measures need to be in place.

  1. Transmission is controlled.
  2. Health system capacities are in place to detect, test, isolate and treat every case and trace every contact.
  3. Outbreak risks are minimized in special settings like health facilities and nursing homes.
  4. Preventive measures are in place in workplaces, schools and other places where it essential for people to go.
  5. Importation risks can be managed.
  6. Communities are fully educated, engaged and empowered to adjust to the “new norm”.
