While the world is still facing multiple global problems due to the Russia-Ukraine war, a new threat is looming over the international community. As per reports, North Korea is ready to be offensive and go on an all-out war against South Korea, an ally of the United States of America. North Korea's 'ready for war' report came after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sacked his military's top general, Chief of the General Staff Pak Su Il. Not only this, Kim Jong appointed the country's former defense minister Ri Yong Gil as the new military general. According to the North Korean news agency, KCNA, Kim Jong Un called for more preparations for the possibility of war and also set a target for the expansion of weapons production capacity. Notably, apart from Gen. Pak Su Il, other 'leading commanding officers' were also dismissed, transferred, or appointed during a meeting of the Central Military Commission on Wednesday. Now, the question arises why Kim Jong-Un dismissed Pak Su Il & why the international community is concerned over the North Korean leader's new threat. Below is what we know so far-

Leif-Eric Easley, professor of international studies at Ewha Womans University in Seoul was quoted by a US media portal who explained the dynamics of the appointment of Ri Yong Gil on North Korea's top military post. he said, "Ri Yong Gil is a longstanding member of North Korea’s military elite, who before making it to the top, experienced ups and downs during his career. Seven years ago, he was even rumored to have been executed after a personnel reshuffle."

Is North Korea planning an attack on South Korea?

Well, this is what Kim Jong-Un's latest directives suggest. As per reports, Kim Jong Un's order to intensify military training and weapons production was issued "in an offensive way," as the North Korean leader called for comprehensive war preparations. State media images depicted Kim engaged in discussions with uniformed top generals, pointing at maps and discussing "major military actions" against South Korea. Kim's latest move comes after his visit to key arms factories, further indicating North Korea's focus on bolstering its military capabilities. It is pertinent to mention here that Kim Jong's latest warning or threat comes at a time when joint military drills between South Korea and the United States are about to take place. Notably, North Korea has always taken these joint drills as an act to invade or attack Kim Jong-Un-ruled country.
