Punjab Governor and Administrator of UT Chandigarh had swung into action . The Governor Mr Banwari Lal Purohit will start a tour of the state in April. He will start with a visit to the six border districts of Punjab Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Fazilka . Decision to this regard was taken on 26th March. A joint meeting was held in this regard with The Chief Secretary Mr Anirudh Tiwari and DGP Mr B.K Bhamra was held on Wednesday

The Governor is scheduled to meet General Public as well as BSF Officials there to enquire about the issues they are facing and if increase in BSF Command area has improved their lives in any way? He will also take into account problems of Boarder Farmers

Ever since the area of control has been increased for BSF to 50 KM’s in Punjab, there has been a consistent protest from the Political parties of Punjab stating that Centre is unduly interfering in states and damaging the federal structure. Activity and that too mass contact type of Governor who is the Central Government’s representative may spark a new row between Union Government led by BJP and the State Government led by AAP. We may see the scenes like we are witnessing in West Bengal relating to strained relations between Head of the State and Head of the State Government as BJP and AAP are already at loggerheads over many issues including unification and delay in elections of the Three Municipal Bodies of Delhi.

First the decision on Punjab Quota as Member Electricity in BBMB, Then appointment of UT Cadre officials in Chandigarh instead of Punjab Cadre and now Implementing Central Service rules on Chandigarh Administration employees instead of Punjab Cadre rules have already created a political storm and this switch to active mode by the governor will only fuel the same. And no awards for guessing that it’s Punjab which will suffer the most.
