With the emergence of first case here’s what you should know about ‘Green Fungus’ and its symptoms

As the country is gradually recovering from the deadly second wave of coronavirus pandemic cases of rare fungal infections have come emerged across India.

We all are known to the cases of Black, White, and Yellow Fungus infection however now, another colored fungal infection case has emerged and it has made the medical experts to scratch their heads.

It is to be noted here that Black fungus has already been declared as an epidemic in many states.

Earlier in the day, a 34-year-old Covid-19-survivor was diagnosed with green fungus infection in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and was shifted to Mumbai by air ambulance for treatment.

This is the first case of green fungus in India and it was found out after a patient was airlifted from Indore to Mumbai. According to Dr. Ravi Dosi, head of the Department of Chest Diseases, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS), the patient underwent a test on suspicion that he had contracted the mucormycosis or black fungus, following which it was examined that he has green fungus.

With the emergence of the first-ever “green fungus” case in Madhya Pradesh, people are now curious to know its symptoms and causes.

What is Green Fungus?

The rare fungal infection is also known as ‘Aspergillosis,’ includes high fever and nose bleeding. It is caused by ‘Aspergillus’, a common mold that lives indoors and outdoors. However, people with low or weak immune systems or lung diseases are prone to develop health problems related to green fungus infection.

a) Nose Bleeding

b) High Fever

c) Weakness or Fatigue

d) Weight Loss 

How Green Fungus can be prevented?

1. Try maintaining good hygiene, oral and physical cleanliness.

2. Avoid areas with a lot of dust and stored contaminated water.

3. Wear an N95 respirator for prevention from dust

4. Avoid activities that involve close contact with soil or dust.

5.Try to keep washing your face and hands well with soap and water, especially if they have been exposed to soil or dust.
