This day is observed every year on August 19th, and it brings together photography enthusiasts from all over the world to honour the art of photography.

The innovation of photography has played an important part in human history; we now have recordings of historic events because they were caught in photos and can be viewed indefinitely. Photography has the ability to instantaneously capture expressions, sentiments, ideas, and moments and immortalise them for future generations to see.


History of World Photography Day
The first World Photography Day was celebrated in France in 1837. By inventing the 'daguerreotype,' two Frenchmen named Joseph Nicephore Niepce and Louis Daguerre created the first-ever photography process. On January 19, 1837, the French Academy of Sciences formally declared the creation of the daguerreotype.It's said that ten days following the announcement, the French government bought the patent for the innovation and offered it to the world as a gift with no copyright.

While the French innovation is credited with being the start of commercial photography, William Henry Fox Talabot streamlined the technique in 1839. 


Mr. Talabot developed a more flexible photography technique based on salt prints on paper. The metal-based daguerreotype faced competition from this more flexible technology.
