‘Yahan ki aabo-hawa kuchh aisi hai k...’: When actor Yusuf Hussain expressed his love for Lucknow

The veteran actor Yusuf Hussain today breathed his last at the age of 73. The senior actor was Covid infected and was being treated at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.

Yahan ki aabo-hawa kuchh aisi hai ki once a Lucknowite, always a Lucknowites,” said Bollywood actor Yusuf Hussain while expressing his love for Lucknow in 2012.


The veteran actor, who lived all over the world for nearly 40 years, used to call Lucknow his forever home. He believed his ties to Lucknow were so strong that they could never be severed. "Lucknow is and will always be my home,” said Yusuf Hussin nearly a decade ago when he was in the city to visit his cousin, renowned theatre enthusiast and writer Vilayat Jafri and uncle Padma Shri Dr Mansoor Hasan.

Today, the brilliant veteran actor Yusuf Hussain breathed his last on Saturday at the age of 73. The senior actor was Covid infected and was being treated at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.

His son-in-law and director Hansal Mehta informed the media of the actor's death this morning. Yusuf Hussain's death has devastated his family and friends in the film industry. 

In an emotional Instagram post, Hansal Mehta, who is married to Yusuf Hussain's daughter Safeena, expressed his grief for his father-in-law. When he was "troubled" and his "non-existent career as a filmmaker was finished completely," he tweeted a photo of Yusuf Hussain and wrote about how the late actor helped him finish his 2012 film Shahid, starring Rajkummar Rao, when he was "troubled." Hansal Mehta shared that Yusuf Hussain was like a father to him.

Yusuf had played significant roles in many films like Crazy Cukkad Family, Road To Sangam, Dhoom 2 and Raees.
