“You have made nation proud,” said PM Modi to Paralympic champions; during their meet

“An interaction with our champions, who brought back pride and glory from Tokyo!” tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

This year, India bagged 19 medals in the Tokyo Paralympics, including 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. This time India scripted history as it was India’s best performance in any Paralympic Games. After the team returned, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the players on Thursday. And the video of this meeting was released on Sunday.

The video was shared by Prime Minister himself, while sharing the video he wrote, “Interacting with our champions, who brought back pride and glory from Tokyo… #Paralympics”

During the tournament, PM kept a close watch on the performance of the athletes and was constantly encouraging them. He congratulated every medal winner on social media and also communicated telephonically.

During the interaction, PM Modi praised them for their performance in the Paralympics and further said that their achievements would definitely boost the morale of other players. 

Those who did not win a medal were also encouraged during the honour ceremony. The Prime Minister asked them to take it out from the heart that they could not win the medal. “You did your best and it is a matter of pride for the country”, said PM Modi.

This year, India scripted history after winning all medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) in the Paralympics. In Tokyo Paralympics 2021, India won five Gold medals, on the other hand, earlier, India had not won more than two gold medals in one game. 

India won eight silver in Tokyo, earlier India had 4 silver in total and had never won more than 2 silver in a Paralympic game. 

India bagged six bronze medals this time. Earlier India only had four bronze medals.
