Parents of Iranian filmmaker murdered, chopped him for being unmarried
Babak Khorramdin, an Iranian film director, was reportedly murdered by his parents in an honour killing following a quarrel about his unmarried status.
The body of the 47-year-old London-based filmmaker was discovered in Ekbatan, a town in western Tehran, dismembered in garbage bags and a suitcase.
The father is quoted on the Rokna website as saying, "My son was a bachelor. He was always harassing us. Our futures were not safe. He cursed and did what he wanted. His mother and I came to a decision." We got rid of him so we wouldn't have to worry about our reputation.”
The parents have also admitted to killing their daughter and son-in-law, according to a tweet by journalist Golnar Motevalli. "I feel no guilt at all," the father was quoted as saying.
Babak directed a number of short films, including Crevice and Oath to Yashar, about a young man who moves to London to study and misses his family.
After receiving a master's degree in cinema from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran in 2009, he moved to London in 2010 to pursue further education in filmmaking.
