‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is now set for its OTT release in India and the film will have its grand digital premiere on June 4 at 7 PM and will begin streaming from June 5 exclusively on JioHotstar.
The makers have promoted the OTT version as “Raw & Undekha” hinting at a more intense and uncensored experience for viewers and a similar version has already started streaming outside India on Netflix from May 14-15 and this version reportedly includes graphic violence, strong language, and several uncensored scenes however it is still not confirmed whether the same cut will be released for Indian audiences as well.
The film has also been in headlines due to a legal dispute linked to one of its songs as earlier in April Trimurti Films filed a copyright infringement case against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios and Super Cassettes Industries Pvt Ltd popularly known as T-Series.
The case was related to the alleged unauthorised use of the popular song “Tirchhi Topiwale” from the 1989 film Tridev and according to reports Delhi High Court recently allowed OTT release of the film to continue and the court rejected a plea seeking to stop the streaming of the movie because it had already been released in theatres earlier this year.
The court also observed that blocking OTT release after theatrical release would create an unfair and “inconceivable” situation and at the same time court said that if Trimurti Films later succeeds in proving its claims it can be compensated through damages, the court also directed T-Series to deposit ₹50 lakh with court within four weeks.
The court further noted that T-Series had used and remixed songs from Tridev in earlier films as well and no objection was raised at that time and because of this the court said filmmakers could not suddenly be forced to suffer major financial losses after investing large amounts of money and effort into the film and dispute between both parties was earlier sent for mediation in April but reports say the talks failed in May.
