According to reports, Javed Khanani used to run Pakistan's largest exchange firm. He was a director of Javed Khanani and Kalia International (KKI) money changers.
Reports further suggest that for two decades, Khanani helped bankroll one of the most sophisticated covert economic assaults India had ever faced by flooding Indian market with fake currency notes.
Deccan Chronicles report that Khanani's company carried out 40 percent of all money exchange transactions in Pakistan at the time.
The seriousness of Khanani's crime can be understood by the fact that US Treasury Department as per Business Insider Report in 2017 stated that Khanani and Kalia International (KKI) was one of the largest and most sophisticated exchange companies in Pakistan, running a global network of franchises that could move "billions of dollars" around the world.
"Khanani is known to have had relationships with Lashkar-e-Taiba, Dawood Ibrahim, Al Qaeda and Jaish-e-Mohammed," the Treasury Department said in November 2015.
It is pertinent to mention here that Javed Khanani and Altaf Khanani were twin brothers. Javed's brother Altaf spent more than a year in a Miami jail.He sentenced to 68 months in prison for conspiring to commit money laundering.
Altaf Khanani was also fined $250,000 by a Florida court.
Notably, Javed Khanani died in December 2016 by falling from a building in Karachi. A few reports suggest that Javed took his own life.
Notably, Modi Government announced the demonetisation of all existing ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes on November 8, 2016. After watching Dhurandhar, fans are linking Javed Khanani's death to Modi Government's demonetization. It is claimed that Khanani had many thousand crores of fake Indian currency notes.
