After a moderate performance at the box office, Haq was released on Netflix on January 2, 2026. Ever since its release, fans and critics are lavishing praise on the makers as well as the actors for their performance.
Directed by Suparn S Varma, Haq is a legal drama that revolves around a Muslim woman named Shazia Bano who files a case against her husband to get Rs 400 per month maintenance for her children. Shazia's husband Advocate Mohammad Abbas Khan divorced her by saying Talaq three times i.e. Triple Talaq.

For those who still haven't watched the movie, the legal drama tells the tale of Shazia Bano played by actress Yami Gautam who gets married to an Advocate named Abbas played by Emraan Hashmi.
After a few years of happy marriage, Abbas informs Shazia that he is going to Pakistan to clear a legal problem related to his ancestral land. Abbas says that he will return in 3 weeks. During that period, Shazia was pregnant with her third child.
Instead of three weeks, Abbas returned home after three months. Not only this, but Abbas also brought his second wife named Saira Jahan played by actress Vartika Singh.
Abbas lies to Shazia that Shaira lost her husband at a very young age due to addiction and alcohol. Not only this, Abbas tells Shazia that Shaira's husband used to beat her a lot. Hence, Abbas decided to end her misery and marry her. As a result, Shazia accepts her initially. Later, Shaira in rage tells Shazia that she is not a charity and Abbas has loved her even before he married Shazia. As, Saira got married to someone else, Abbas married Shazia. When Abbas got to know that Saira lost her husband, he rushed to Pakistan to meet her and even married her.
For the unversed, Shazia Bano's character is inspired by Shah Bano who sued her husband Ahmed Khan (real name) for maintenance.
The character of Saira Jahan is inspired by Halima Begum. According to reports, Halima Begum was Shah Bano's cousin. She was 14 years younger than Shah Bano.
Ahmed married Halima 14 years after marrying Shah Bano. Ahmed and Halima had multiple children. Some reports suggest that they had 6-7 children. Their one son became a lawyer.
After Shah Bano's legal victory in Supreme Court, (then) Government of India passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986, to nullify the ruling and limit maintenance to the iddat period.
Ultimately, Ahmed Khan continued to live with Halima Begum until his death in 2006 at age 94. Halima Begum outlived him. Not much information is available regarding Halima Begum after this.
