Aditya Dhar-directorial Dhurndhar is turning out to be the biggest movie of 2025. It is not only witnessing a major footfall in theaters but also ruling social media in India and around the world. Dhurandhar is inspired by true events that revolve around Karachi's Lyari Gang War and how gangsters, politicians, and Pakistan's Intelligence ISI work hand-in-hand against India.
Before the release of the movie, Dhurandhar had hit a roadblock after parents of martyr Major Mohit Sharma's parents filed a plea in Delhi High Court seeking stay on Dhurandhar's release.
Dhurandhar makers were accused of using Major Mohit Sharma's name to promote their movie to get publicity. While the movie did not mention that Ranveer Singh's character is inspired by Major Mohit Sharma, the actor's look pushed a narrative that his character is inspired by the martyr Indian Army officer.
Notably, film-maker Aditya Dhar then took to his X handle and clarified that Dhurandhar is not based on Major Mohit Sharma's life.
Responding to a social media user, Dhar wrote, "Hi, sir - our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM.
This is an official clarification.
I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Jai Hind".
Rajendra Prasad Sharma, Major Mohit Sharma's mother in an interview with NDTV said, "When the film's trailer was released, youtubers, influencers started to promote it by linked it to Major Mohit. We objected to the use of Major Mohit's name just for publicity of the film. It was getting used so that people get inspired and go to theaters in large number to watch the movie. So, my elder son Madhur posted on Instagram that this doubt must be cleared."
"Thereafter, Aditya Dhar also posted that this film is not based on Major Mohit's life, but if ever he makes a biopic then he will surely make a movie on Major Mohit Sharma. Just to get the clarification we filed a case in the High Court against Dhurandhar's release."
Sushila Sharma, Major Mohit Sharma's mother said, "You are showcasing Ranveer Singh with Major Mohit on social media. Trailer also showcase similarities with him. So who will not believe that Ranveer Singh's character is based on Major Mohit Sharma? So we approached the High Court because no consent was taken from us. If you see the trailer, a man is being pulled from a chain, but Mohit never did something like this."
"What if someone sees this in Pakistan and we are attacked? Everyone knows about Major Mohit, we do not have security."
"Yes we want that a biopic gets made on Major Mohit's life but I cannot say which actor should be casted as it will depend on the film-maker. We will fully support the star cast who will act in Major Mohit Sharma's biopic."
