Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao evaded the threat of going to jail after he surrendered in a court in Jalandhar. An arrest warrant was issued against actor Rajkummar Rao by a Jalandhar Court after he failed to appear despite repeated summons in a 2017 case.
Rajkummar Rao, actress Shruti Haasan and the makers of Bollywood movie Behen Hogi Teri were booked in Jalandhar for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
Rajkummar Rao's case was going on in the court of Judge Srijan Shukla. During this, Rao himself reached the court at 4 pm and surrendered, a few days back. After which Judge Shukla granted him bail.
Now, Rajkummar Rao's legal representative Advocate Darshan Singh Dayal has shared details of the case and outlined why the actor was not attending the court despite repeated summons. Below is what Rajkummar Rao's lawyer said-
"This case was lodged on the complaint of Ishant Sharma S/O Surinder Sharma, from Basti Danish Manda. A film named Behan Hogi Teri was released. There were a few posters printed of the movie. Rajkummar Rao was playing the hero, Shruti Haasan, daughter of Kamal Haasan."
"Producer and Director of the movie were also linked in this case. In the poster, Lord Shiva was seen riding a motorcycle. Lord Shiva was shown wearing sleepers. Hindu community has belief that Lord Shiva never wears sleepers. Hence, they felt the movie hurt their religious sentiment. Due to this, a case was filed under 295 A, 61 of the IT Act. The case was filed in a Jalandhar Police Station on 19/04/2017, said Advocate Darshan Singh Dayal.
"Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan had got anticipatory bail under this. Two men named Pannalal and D'Souza were arrested and were brought from Mumbai. They were also granted bail. However, the case went on. But due to their absence, the court issued a challan. The address was of Gurgaon, so the summon was sent to Gurgaon. But, he (Rajkummar) has shifted to Mumbai. Hence, the court issued an arrest warrant against him (Rajkummar Rao). Due to the warrant, Rajkummar Rao came here and surrendered in the court. Now, he has been granted bail. Rajkummar Rao should attend the court in Jalandhar on July 30."
