In a major development, Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has been granted bail by the Jalandhar Court in the case filed for hurting the religious sentiments of the community through his 2017 film “Behen Hogi Teri.”

The recent hearing of the case was scheduled today, July 28, 2025. Rao himself appeared in court at around 4 pm and surrendered, following which the court granted him bail.

The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for July 30, 2025.

What is the case?

The FIR against the actor and the makers of the film was registered in 2017 at Police Station Division Number 5, Jalandhar. The complaint was registered by a local Shiv Sena leader, who alleged that Lord Shiva was depicted inappropriately in the film, hurting the sentiments and religious beliefs of the Hindu Community.

The FIR noted the names of the director of the film, Nitin Kakkar, procured Amul Vikas Mohle, and the actors of the film - Shruti Hassan and Rajkummar Rao.

The history of the case -

During an earlier hearing, actor Rajkummar Rao did not appear, for which a non-bailable warrant was registered against the actor. However, the actor, initially, was presented in the court and had taken anticipatory bail from the court, but his absence in the last hearing resulted in the issuance of a non-bailable warrant, because of which he presented in the court today and surrendered.

By the end of the recent hearing, the actor was issued bail, and the next hearing is scheduled on July 30, 2025. It has been anticipated that the major legal points will be discussed between both parties during the upcoming hearing. It is to be noted that the complainant of the matter has described the matter as “serious” as, according to him, religious faith and sentiments of the community were hurt.

According to the reports, as of now, no public statement has been released by Rajkummar Rao or his PR team.

The film - Behen Hogi Teri

The film is directed by Ajay Pannalal, and the cast includes Rajkummar Rao, Shruti Haasan, Gulshan Grover, Gautam Gulati, and Rupa Agrawal.

Unfortunately, the film did not perform well and was rated two stars out of 5.

The plot of the film revolves around Gattu, a character played by Rajkummar Rao, and Binnu, played by Shruti Haasan. Gattu loves Binny, but everyone in his neighbourhood forces him to treat her like his sister, and finally, he decides to fight against the prejudice.
